Save our Buses

Save Our Buses logoDefending the country's 'get up and go'!

Buses are the most frequently used form of public transport. Day in and day out they link thousands of people up and down the country to jobs, schools and shops. However, Government spending cuts are having a devastating effect on our vital bus services. Across the country socially necessary buses are being axed by local authorities.

The Save Our Buses campaign stands up for treasured local buses and defends them from damaging funding cuts. Routes and services across England and Wales are being lost and if we don't make a stand now, it will be too late.

In some parts of the country, cuts to bus services are now reaching critical levels. Our new research shows how entire networks of bus services are at risk of collapse. Our report Buses in crisis reveals 46 per cent of local authorities reducing their support for buses in 2013 with a number threatening to remove all support in the next financial year. If Government doesn’t take action to help support buses we will see whole networks disappear. Have a look at our report to see what's happening in your area and get behind the Save our Buses campaign.

We have bus budget data from the last three years from almost every Local Authority in England and Wales. Our interactive bus cuts map makes transparent the extent of the problem of local authority funding cuts to buses.

Bus cuts map: screen grabThe Save our Buses map is a crowd-sourcing project. We aim to keep it as up-to-date as possible; however we cannot guarantee that we will always keep pace with changes. If you are aware of any more information, please tell us via this web form.

We used the Freedom of Information Act to get information from all local transport authorities about changes to bus services. Everything we found is in the public domain on the What Do They Know website, and you will find a link to the response we got from your local authority if you click on the map.
