Norwich No N25 Campaign

No N25 is an umbrella group of environmental organisations and individuals who believe that Norwich's transport problems will not be solved by building a Northern Distributor Road (NDR). Instead the road will lead to increased traffic, urban sprawl, environmental damage and higher council taxes.

Norfolk County Council's plan for this £100m+ road is inextricably bound up with the plans of the Greater Norwich Development Partnership (GNDP) for large amounts of new housing and business development.

The housing development is being used as a justification for the NDR, but there are better locations for housing, near to existing road infrastructure and, most importantly, near to viable public transport interchanges and employment areas.

On our website you can respond to GNDP's proposals.

Latest News :

January 2008: Norfolk County Council has been forced into a climb-down, and is now under investigation by its own officers, over its attempt to award the contract to build the Norwich Northern Distributor Road to its 'Strategic Partners', developers May Gurney, without putting it out to competitive tender. Strategic Partnerships were never intended for contracts of this size and the Department for Transport, on the advice of its lawyers, demanded competitive tendering.

This will delay plans for the development, possibly by up to two years. Any delay is good news because we have reason to expect support for the road from the City Council to diminish as it approaches transition to a Unitary Authority (it would become liable for a part of the cost of the road if the paperwork were not yet completed).
