Experience: Before joining the Campaign for Better Transport in January 2007 I worked as a writer and editor for the web.

Why I work for the Campaign for Better Transport: Choosing greener transport doesn’t have to be a sacrifice: I much prefer public transport to travelling by car, and many, many people feel the same way. But at the moment, there are lots of obstacles standing in the way of people making that choice, including price issues, problems with connections and poor information. We need to get rid of these obstacles.

Biggest transport gripe: Street design that turns pedestrians into second-class citizens. Why should I have to walk through a smelly, scary underpass just so the traffic above my head can keep moving?

Favourite means of transport: As a student I spent time inter-railing around Europe: you buy one ticket that lasts a month, and you can travel pretty much unrestricted. It’s a fantastic way to explore the continent, chugging through Alps and olive groves and meeting interesting people, and if you can’t afford a hostel you can kip on the train. Great fun!
