Experience: Although I’ve only been at the Campaign for Better Transport since January 2007, I’ve worked in communications for 12 years, initially as a journalist. I also have 20 years’ experience as a volunteer. At the moment I volunteer for a group that works to improve parks and other urban open spaces.
Why I work for the Campaign for Better Transport: I believe in liveable, vibrant cities that are nice places to live. If we’re to have cities like this, we need to get public transport right. London is getting there, but whenever I leave the capital I’m struck by the poor state of public transport in other towns and cities.
Favourite means of transport: In London, you can’t beat walking. It’s fast and reliable and you can choose your own route. Back in Canada, where I come from, it would have to be ice skating. In Ottawa they partially drain the canal in winter, so it’s safe to skate, and you can get right from one side of town to the other this way.
