Jason Torrance
Experience: In the early ’90s I helped to found the radical environmental group Earth First, which worked with others to set up the anti-roads movement. After working for a number of environmental groups in the UK and Europe I was delighted to join the Campaign for Better Transport as Campaigns Director in 2005.
Why I work for the Campaign for Better Transport: I’m passionate about protecting the natural world and tackling climate change, and I’m convinced that if we’re to do this, we have to get transport right. What’s more, transport affects absolutely everyone, and so it’s an issue that really activates people to campaign against environmental destruction.
Biggest transport gripe: Traffic noise. I hate the fact that there’s barely anywhere in Britain where you can get away from the sound of cars and planes.
Favourite means of transport: The train journey from London to the Pyrenees is brilliant. It’s just great stepping out of the train and being surrounded by mountains.
Airport expansion means bulldozed villages, noise, air pollution and climate change. Help us fight airport expansion and campaign for better alternatives to flying.
