Our Buses in Crisis report found that 2015/16 has been one of the worst years yet for cuts to bus services. Sixty three per cent of local authorities in England and Wales have cut funding for bus services, whilst 44% have removed or withdrawn services. This has meant over 2,400 bus routes have been cut or withdrawn with potentially more on the horizon.
Our research shows people living in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Somerset, Dorset, West Berkshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, North Yorkshire and Lancashire will be hit particularly badly with local authorities proposing massive cuts from local bus budgets over the next few years totalling more than £27 million, leaving many rural and isolated communities with little or no bus services at all.
Please send a clear message to your MP and tell them why buses are vitally important, letting them know that enough is enough, action must be taken to prevent the continued decline in our buses and provide them with the funding they need and deserve.
