West Yorkshire Campaign for Better Transport campaigns on local issues and supports the national organisation in pressing for sustainable transport. Formed in the mid 1970s, the group comprises a large rail campaigning group, a small bus group and a small general campaigning group. We are currently looking into ways that the demand for transport can be managed, as well as campaigning for bus priority measures, opposing new roads in the area and supporting rail. We are also active in the Regional Transport Activists’ Roundtable and work closely with Sustrans to promote demand management and active travel.
We meet every two months at the Leeds Methodist Mission, folowed by a local pub. Meetings take place during the week in the early evenings, plus two summer evening outdoor events where we do things like walking parts of the canal system.
The major redevelopment of Derby city centre including its new bus station continues and we will maintain our input through the transport steering group and public consultations.
We are involved with consultations on the proposed extensions and alterations to Derby's ring roads and their junctions. We expect consultations and a public inquiry on the widening and junction changes proposed for the M1. We are also involved in train timetable consultations.
For the many planning and transport issues that arise we will continue to work with many other local organisations, including East Midlands Transport Activists Roundtable, Travel Watch East Midlands, East Midlands Airport Transport Forum, the rural transport partnerships and community rail partnerships.
We hold four evening meetings a year in Derby, on a Wednesday or Thursday, and three Saturday morning meetings in other Derbyshire towns.
Bradford Rail Users Group is campaigning for improvements to Bradford's rail services and infrastructure, including better information about services, new stations, and a cross-city link to open up new travel opportunities within Bradford and across the local rail system.
