Walsall MBC proposed to build a bypass around Brownhills with an alignment which would traverse across Staffordshire Green Belt and close to Stonnall village. This Green Belt is critical to stop the West Midlands conurbation extending into this particular area of Staffordshire and the loss of ancient and high grade farming land.

Both Lichfeld District Council and Staffordshire County Council supported SCAR's objections. This was upheld by the DfT in 2006 and Walsall have agreed to abandon the alignment and seek an alternative route.

Stonnall Campaign About Roads is a registered company limited by guarantee with appointed Directors and Company Secretary.

We meet at least once a month on Fridays from 7:30pm, at the Stonnall Youth and Community Centre, Main Street, Stonnall.

GAME (the Stafford-based Group Against Motorway Expansion) is fighting against the widening of 51 miles of the M6 through Staffordshire and Cheshire (from near Birmingham to near Manchester).

Supporters of the scheme claim that widening is essential for the regeneration and economic growth of the area, but this is a spurious argument and at a current estimated cost of almost £3 billion (nearly £58 million per mile) the proposal is an outrageous waste of money.

The real problem with congestion is not that the motorway is too narrow, but that there is too much traffic - throughout the whole country. It is absolutely essential that this widening (or even the proposed 'Hard Shoulder Running') does not happen. The future depends on society making genuinely sustainable plans today.

The West Midlands Regional Sustainability Forum represents a wide range of environmental, amenity and transport non-governmental organisations in the West Midlands and seeks to promote sustainable development.

WMRSF was established in 1999 and provides a voice for its member groups on a number of regional bodies in the West Midlands, primarily the West Midlands Regional Assembly and Advantage West Midlands (the West Midlands Regional Development Agency) which are responsible for developing the planning, transport and economic frameworks for the region.

The Forum works to reduce the impact of climate change and promote respect for the environment, improvements to biodiversity, protection of our countryside and provision of urban open space.

The Forum also acts as the Transport Activists' Roundtable in the region promoting sustainable transport and reducing the need to travel.

The forum aims to add value to its members work but not to distract from their primary aims.
