Get some support

Community improvements hardly ever happen when people work alone. When we work in groups we collect the necessary energy, enthusiasm, good ideas, contacts and skills that are needed to bring about real change in our neighbourhoods.

Some possible allies for your campaign:

  • RNIB, which represents the interests of visually impaired people
  • RNID, which represents the interests of deaf and hard of hearing people
  • The Equality and Human Rights Commission, a Government body set up to implement the Disability Discrimination Act and a useful source of advice and information. The Act obliges all providers of services to make changes to address the barriers that prevent disabled people from using them
  • The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee, a statutory body that advices Government on the transport needs of disabled people
  • Journey Solutions, a joint rail and bus industry initiative to improve integration between buses and trains
  • Rail user groups, cycle groups, community groups, regeneration groups and national transport and environment groups could also be good allies
