In April 2004, an area of West Ealing in London was officially launched as a Home Zone. The photos below, courtesy of Five Roads Forum, show the area before, during and after the changes.
Hastings Road, before and after
Before their area was turned into a Home Zone, residents of Hastings Road suffered from heavy traffic. The photos below show the road before and after a traffic barrier and controlled parking were introduced.

Planters
Residents helped to build planters, which make the area pleasant and welcoming.

Community spirit
The Home Zone has brought the community together. Now that the streets are quieter and safer, neighbours chat outside and there are regular street parties in the area.

Space to play
Traffic has now been reduced and slowed down in the area, and there's space for children to play safely outside.
