Local transport plans (LTPs) set out the transport goals the authority wants to achieve, and the options for achieving them, along with targets and an implementation programme. Current LTPs cover the period from April 2006 to March 2011 and new ones are being drafted, to be in place by April 2011.
If you wish to see some change in local transport provision, you should try to influence the draft LTP. It may help you to review the current LTP.
Transport authorities will consult public transport user groups and other people they consider appropriate, such as environmental organisations and disability groups, when creating the plan, and will keep the plan under review.
LTPs should help local authorities to fulfil their duties and to meet national transport goals.
LTPs must be consistent with local area agreements and sustainable community strategies.
District councils prepare local development frameworks and air quality action plans, and LTPs should reflect and support these plans. Transport authorities in two-tier and metropolitan areas (where the district councils are separate) need to work with these district councils to achieve this.
