Trams

Tram-worthy cities

Trams are likely to be a big success in towns or cities which have:

  • A relatively large population
  • High-density development rather than urban sprawl
  • Congestion, air pollution, high traffic levels
  • The potential for more people to use public transport

There are a number of small towns, especially in Germany, with populations as low as 50,000 that have trams. If we had a similar approach to other European countries, many of our cities and towns would have trams. But to start off with, here are the top 5 cities where we think the Government should build trams as a matter of priority:

  1. Leeds
  2. Liverpool
  3. South Hampshire (Fareham-Portsmouth)
  4. Bristol (A group of locals is fighting hard for a tram)
  5. Cardiff
