Good transport policies can improve people's lives and reduce damage to our environment. Three policy priorities form the core of our work:
Improve public transport
- Public transport must be made comfortable, affordable, convenient and accessible. Pedestrian and cycle routes must be made safe and convenient.
- Access to jobs, services, friends and family: transport must help us make these connections, and be sure to include our most vulnerable citizens.
Reduce traffic
- People deserve attractive streets where children can play, neighbours can meet, and pedestrians and cyclists travel safely and in comfort.
- Road-building cannot solve congestion, but good planning can by making homes, shops, workplaces and leisure facilities closer, reducing the need to travel.
Tackle climate change
- Urgent action is needed to reduce transport’s contribution to climate change: right now, CO2 emissions from transport are rising in the UK.
- Businesses need easy and attractive sustainable travel choices for their goods and their employees.
