Better Transport

We campaign for transport that improves our quality of life and reduces our impact on the environment.

We believe that:

• We need to use our cars less

For this to happen, we need real choice, and green transport must be an attractive option: public transport must be made comfortable, affordable and accessible to all. Pedestrian and cycle routes must be made safe and convenient.

• Traffic must be reduced

People deserve attractive streets where children can play, neighbours meet, and pedestrians and cyclists travel safely and in comfort

• Everyone should be able to access jobs and services, friends and family

Our transport system must enable all of us to make these connections, including disabled people, the young and the elderly, people on low incomes and those in rural areas

• Road-building does not solve congestion.

More roads lead to more traffic, cost too much public money, and damage our countryside, our health and our planet.

• It needs to be easy and attractive for businesses to choose sustainable travel for their goods and for their employees.

Air freight, lorries and rush-hour traffic damage our environment and our quality of life

• The planning process should be used to reduce the need to travel

Communities are happier places when homes, shops, workplaces and leisure facilities are close together

• Urgent action is needed to reduce transport’s contribution to climate change

Right now, CO2 emissions from transport are rising in the UK.
